The Center for Psychotherapy, Christina Dougherty LCSW LLC, is a holistic practice designed to assist our clients to cope, grow, and heal. Holistic mental and behavioral health treatment, in that we are treating the whole person; taking into account not just symptoms or behaviors, but the correlating medical, nutritional, social, cultural, generational, and situational factors involved. We are investigating and addressing the causes and conditions of psychiatric and behavioral problems, not just applying a particular technique to treat a general symptom. These problems do qualify and are treated as medical issues, coded by International Statistical Classification of Diseases and Related Health Problems, and should be covered by insurance due to both the Mental Health Parity Act of 1996 and the Affordable Care Act of 2010. The standard of care at our Center is to collaborate with an interdisciplinary team of specialists, if desired, connecting you with medical doctors, psychopharmacologists, community resources, as well as alternative therapies such as acupuncture and nutritional counseling; we want to assist those with difficulties to be well and flourish with a wide range of support.
The clinicians at the Center for Psychotherapy are in-network with many insurance companies which provides our clients with the assurance that our practitioners are licensed at the clinical, independent level with the state of Pennsylvania and have gone through rigorous credentialing standards. We must prove medical necessity to insurance companies to qualify you for treatment, so we expect a serious commitment to your therapeutic appointments as well as treatment recommendations. We also are a teaching facility, where pre-licensed clinicians and graduate level students can gain experience in private practice and an outpatient setting under the direct supervision of our clinical director, and we appreciate your willingness to train the next generation of quality psychotherapists.
We work with individuals, couples, adolescents and families with a wide range of presenting problems to include those experiencing depression, anxiety, anger management, adjustment to illness or physical disability, relationship issues, situational and phase of life problems, trauma, and addictive disorders such as substance abuse, disordered eating, and behavioral/impulse control issues. Our practice encompasses an eclectic approach, utilizing a wide range of modalities, and we are inclusive to all cultural/racial differences as well as the LGBTQ community.
